Operation Jeevan Sangharsh – Uttarakhand
Operation Jeevan Sangharsh of Uttarakhand started from
1st July, 2013. Five ambulances, 40 doctors and volunteers, 4000 blankets, 4000 saris with
blouses, 20 tons of packed food were sent on 29th June from Uttar Pradesh branch, Delhi
and Uttarakhand. Some specialist doctors and first consignment of medicines worth Rs. 10
lakhs was sent from Mumbai as relief to Uttarakhand victims. Small interaction and send
off program of doctors and medical aid was held where Honourable Mr. Chhagan Bhujbal,
Minister of Public Works & Special Assistance Department, at his bungalow Ramtek, Mumbai
and our Chairman Mr. Arshad Siddiqui, Red Crescent Society of India flagged off relief
material and doctors, volunteers were handed over the medicines to Air India as they were
going to deliver free.We were given warm welcome by the District Collector of Rudra
Prayag and other officials. After seeing the ground situation, we tried our best to do
little bit. Our teams stayed for 2 days and some medicines, food packets and blankets were
distributed but we have felt that acute requirement was where we could not reach and any
other civilian could not reach. We felt that it was not proper time to disturb officials
and armed forces. Therefore, our team and Honourable Chairman decided to come back. While
coming back, there were three to four landslides, so the roads were blocked for two to
three hours and we highly appreciate our armed forces that they have contributed in this
noble cause as well as all missionaries, which we feel will take long time to repair the
damage. Our good wishes to all state employees and citizens that have helped in relief
work.In Lakhimpur, the Society members held a candle march for the victims and the jawans
who lost their lives rescuing the people. The candle march started from Ram Janaki Mandir
and ended at Barwar Chouraha.
